What a Snow Day in Kentucky Looks Like

Snow day #1 for Northern Kentucky, and it’s only mid-November… I have a feeling that it’s going to be a long, cold winter over here and I’ll be seeing lots of these muchkins due to a long string of canceled school. The first snow day is always our favorite… right now we are drying the boots and gloves off for another quick roundĀ of snow play before it gets too dark.

We get a lot of snow days. Our hilly community and the disproportionately small number of plows mean that any amount of sticking snow leads to a delay or cancelation. For the first few snow days, I love it. I love having the kiddos home with me, making hot cocoa and baked goods, reading books and playing board games. After a while though, it does tend to get tiresome. Last year we had 17 snow days I think. That’s a lot of hours to fill and nowhere to go.

But for now, we are in good spirits. We are loving the fluffy white stuff and the chance to have a lazy day together.
