Child & Family Session Information

My goal is to capture your family just as they are – I shy away from elaborate sets, or stuffy studios. I prefer a more creative, lifestyle approach to photography, although I also realize that my clients usually want at least a few posed pictures. So I try to reach a happy medium, taking some posed shots, and then capturing all the “life” that happens in between the “cheese” moments.

I will have your children play. I will try to make you laugh. I find that the BEST sessions ever are sessions where you do something as a family. Go get ice cream, bake cookies, take a hike, have a picnic, splash in a creek. We might get a little dirty, we might cause a little trouble. But I guarantee that we will have fun!

If your child has a unique passion, a favorite teddy bear, a superhero cape he wears every single day, or anything else that makes him or her unique, please let me know so we can capture it for all time. These are the things that we so quickly forget.

Also, I love to see the interaction of mommies and daddies with their little ones. Whenever possible I try to capture this love. I never charge any extra for Mom or Dad to get in front of the camera.

I am always willing to try new ideas – if you have something specific in mind for your session, please let me know and I will try to make it happen!

The Logistics:

I aim for my child/family sessions to be about an hour of shooting time. However, each session is different. Sometimes a baby is done after just 45 minutes. Sometimes it takes a toddler longer than an hour to warm up to the camera. I play by the client, not just by the clock. (Newborn, Senior, and Large group sessions take longer and must pay for a longer session.) I will take the important group shots first (please let me know what is most important to you) and then we will get down to the business of having fun!

As far as locations go – your session can take place anywhere – downtown among the urban jungle, in the deep quiet woods, a field at sunset, or right in your own home. I also shoot indoors during the cooler months – I have a particular passion for capturing children and families right in their own homes.
