This week is birthday week in my house. My two littlest “babies” are now 9 and 6 (and my biggest baby is turning 11 next month.) I can’t believe how quickly our time with them is flying by!
It seems like just yesterday we brought them home from the hospital, fresh and new. We had to figure out the whole parenting thing. We took it day by day, just like most new parents do. And before we knew it, those babies were having first birthdays and learning to walk.
But it didn’t end there.
They just kept growing. They learned how to talk, how to ride bikes, how to read and write. And I know now that it just doesn’t stop.
Today I’m thankful for the memories we have of their first days home from the hospital. The tiny yawns and their soft skin is etched on my mind and in my heart. And thankfully, the memories can live on in photos we lovingly display on our walls and in albums they love to rifle through.
During a recent newborn session, mom and dad and I were talking about memories of when Big Brother was just a tiny baby. I’m so thankful to have been there to photograph their maternity session, Big Brother’s newborn session, and a super fun toddler session for him! And now that he has a precious baby brother, the memories are even more meaningful. Comparing temperaments. Finding mom’s nose, finding dad’s eyes. Watching big brother interact with his new baby and capturing all the love on camera.
These are the moments I want my clients to remember. Just like I remember those moments with my own children.
