The idea of being too “old” for newborn pictures has never sat well with me. Sure, babies under 2 weeks old sleep a LOT. And yes, it’s easier to get the sleeping posed pictures that are so popular nowadays if baby is fresh and new. But too old? No, there’s no age that’s “too old” to be photographed. Each phase is precious, each stage is worth remembering.
This little guy was seven weeks new when he came to visit me for his newborn pictures, and while he’s a bit plumper than most of the new babies on my site, we were able (with some patience, bouncing, and rocking) to get him into a deep, sound sleep. The best part is that we were also able to capture some beautiful open-eyed pictures – something that we aren’t always able to accomplish with very new newborn babies.
The styling of this session is a bit different than my normal, colorful sets… I was so inspired by a recent newborn workshop I took with the fabulous Julian Evans on The Bloom Forum. When my client requested bright, simple photos, I rejoiced and pulled out all the neutral colors and textures I could find. 🙂 The colors went perfectly with the vintage romper that mom brought along – it once belonged to little Reuben’s daddy, and I’m betting that grandma can’t help see her little boy in in new grandson – Mr Reuben definitely favors his dad.
Please give this little guy some comment love – he was just a doll during his session, and proved to me that no baby is the wrong age for pictures.
