Planning your wedding day timeline can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be! As a Cincinnati, OH wedding photographer with 15 years of experience, I’ve seen what works (and what doesn’t) when it comes to keeping your day stress-free and running smoothly. That’s why I offer complimentary wedding timeline consultations for all my couples—because a well-planned timeline means better photos, more relaxed moments, and a wedding day that flows effortlessly. Most of the time this timeline planning is done by phone, with a detailed itinerary sent to you afterwards, but if you prefer we can have a virtual meeting or or in person meeting instead. Please feel free to include your wedding coordinator if you have one!

Why Your Wedding Timeline Matters
A well-structured wedding timeline is the key to a stress-free day. It ensures that:
- You have enough time for every important moment
- Portraits are scheduled during the best natural lighting
- You and your partner actually get to enjoy the day, instead of feeling rushed
With 15 years of wedding photography experience, I know how to create a timeline that keeps your day on track while allowing for flexibility.

Wedding Timeline Essentials
Here’s a basic timeline breakdown to help you start planning:
Getting Ready (2-3 Hours Before Ceremony)
- Bridal details (dress, rings, shoes, invitations, etc.)
- Candid moments with bridesmaids/groomsmen
- Getting into your dress/tux
- First looks with parents or wedding party
Pro Tip: Allow extra time for hair and makeup—this is one of the biggest reasons wedding timelines run late!
First Look & Couple’s Portraits (Optional – 30-45 Minutes)
- If you’re doing a first look, this is a great time for intimate portraits before the ceremony.
- A first look also allows you to complete most of your photos before the ceremony, so you can enjoy cocktail hour!
Ceremony (30 Minutes – 1 Hour)
- Most ceremonies last around 30 minutes, but be sure to account for travel time if your reception is at a different location.
Family Photos (30 Minutes) & Wedding Party Photos (30 Minutes)
- Family portraits should be organized ahead of time with a shot list.
- Wedding party photos can be done before or after the ceremony, depending on whether you do a first look.
Pro Tip: Keeping family photos organized ensures you don’t spend too much time wrangling people instead of celebrating!
Reception Timeline (Varies)
- Grand entrance
- Dinner & toasts
- First dances
- Open dance floor
- Cake cutting
- Special send-off (if planned)
Pro Tip: If you want dreamy sunset portraits, we’ll schedule a quick 10-15 minute break right before sunset for golden-hour photos!

More tips:
- Clear Communication: Before creating your timeline, we’ll discuss your vision, must-have moments, and locations.
- Start Early: We’ll cover the basics (ceremony time, portraits, first look) early on and finalize details about six months before your wedding.
- Vendor Collaboration: I work with planners, DJs, and venue staff to keep your timeline smooth and stress-free.
- Build in Buffer Time: Extra time prevents stress, allows for unexpected delays, and lets you truly enjoy your day.
- Golden Hour Magic: The best lighting happens around sunset—perfect for dreamy, romantic portraits.
- Candid Moments Matter: My storytelling approach captures real, emotional moments throughout the day.
- Stay Flexible: Things don’t always go exactly as planned, but with experience and adaptability, I’ll keep your day running smoothly.
