Summer living is easy, and wardrobe planning for summer Creekside Mini Sessions should be just as carefree! Let me help you plan these sessions from start to finish. I’m happy to take a more hands on approach with my clients, giving specific advice by text, email, or even in person.
Casual or Dressy: Either! Both a casual look as well as slightly dressier look works well for these creekside sessions. I would stay away from very formal looks like fancy fitted dresses or a dress shirt and slacks. See examples above for both a dressy and a casual look. There are also plenty more examples of great Creekside looks on the customized Creekside Pinterest board!
Colors: Basically, anything goes for the summer Creekside Session color schemes. I prefer light colors for creekside sessions, with palettes of soft pinks, creams, light blues, and tans. Neutrals like white or cream look amazing in creek locations, just remember that we may get a little or a lot wet, so washable fabrics would be wise. The only colors I’d shy away from are greens – there’s still a lot of bright green leaves on the trees this time of year, and you don’t want to blend in. Also, soft colors are preferred over brights or neons.
Patterns: Small scale patterns and soft florals look great for this type of session – I’d avoid large, bold plaid or stripes for this nature-inspired session.
Mom + girls: Maxi dresses that are allowed to hang into the water lend a soft, feminine look (and alleviates too much stress about footwear!) Shorter dresses and skirts tend to stay cleaner if you don’t want your clothing wet. If you don’t like dresses, a chic pair of fitted bermudas and a flowy top are good choices. For little girls, a sweet bubble romper looks extra adorable paired with a cute pair of rainboots.
Dad + boys: Fitted, nicer tee shirts or button up linen shirts are great looks for the guys! Avoid large, bulky cargo shorts in favor of more fitted chino shorts. Another great look is to roll up a pair of longer chinos. Little boys look adorable in rolled up jeans with no shirts for a classic “summer” look.
Shoes: Barefoot is always great for these, however if you crave a little more protection, a leather sandal or a simple canvas sneaker looks great. Brightly colored crocs or water shoes (while functional) don’t always lend the best look to images.
Accessories: keep accessories natural and simple – for example, a dainty necklace or bracelet made of gold or natural materials like stone or wood. Too much jewelry tends to look a bit fussy for such a “wild” location like this.
